Community Outreach

The Arc of Weld County (The AWC) strives to provide trainings and other opportunities for people with disabilities, their families, and their caregivers to appreciate life in their own communities. Our events are designed not only to provide education but also opportunities for families to enjoy time engaging in community life, as well as to educate the community about the mission and vision of The AWC. The AWC is privileged to be able to provide all our programs and services free of charge for attendees. All our events can be found by viewing our events calendar under the News and Events tab, or by contacting Leticia Arguello, our Advocacy Manager, at or by calling (970) 353.5219 x105.

Educational Trainings:

We provide trainings throughout the year, to better equip our community with strong advocates who push for the rights of their loved ones with IDD. Past trainings have included guardianship, wills and trusts, Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and Medicaid. We tailor the curriculum around relevant topics that our families are currently interested in, so please let us know if you have an idea for a workshop or program you believe will benefit self-advocates, parents, and caregivers.

Film Festival:

Every year in March, The AWC is excited to celebrate National Developmental Disabilities Awareness month with our annual Achieve with Us Film Festival. Each year we create a playlist of carefully selected short films featuring actors, directors, and producers with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Please check our events calendar for more information and specific dates and times.

Bully Prevention Poster Contest:

Every year, The AWC is privileged to partner with local area school districts to host a Bully Prevention Poster Contest. Each year students of all age are encouraged to create posters that demonstrate how they, their peers, and community members to stand up against bullying and promote inclusion. Winning students receive recognition in front of their respective school boards, a certificate of achievement, a calendar featuring their artwork, as well as a cash prize with matching funds to support their school’s Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) program.

Pool Party:

The Annual Pool Party is a favorite event for staff, the individuals we serve, and anyone who has ever attended in years passed! This is a laid-back time to get together and celebrate our awesome community with food, music, and fun poolside. Keep a lookout on our event calendar for accurate dates and times of the event each year.

Families in Action:

The AWC knows how difficult it can be for families and caregivers of individuals with IDD to balance the finances, special needs, and time it takes to take a vacation, that is why we are excited to offer our annual Families in Action Retreat! Families in Action is a chance for 10 families from the counties we serve to take a weekend up in the mountains and have a vacation-like experience free of charge! Parents attend advocacy training with professionals in several different fields, while all of their children are partnered with volunteers for a true camp experience.

Project Illumination:

Project Illumination is an education program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Over the course of our time together we will learn about ourselves, how we interact with others, how to build healthy relationships, personal safety, effective communication skills, and positive self-esteem. For more information, please contact Leticia Arguello, our Advocacy Manager, at, or (970) 353.5219 x105.

Summer Community Events:

There is nothing we enjoy more than getting to know you! Every summer we get to do just that by attending community festivals and parades. This is an especially fantastic opportunity for us to get to know the people in the Northeastern counties we serve. Look for The Arc tent at your next community gathering and come by to say ‘Hi!’ We will have information on upcoming events, the chance to learn more about membership, balloons, and fun games!
